VAMPIRE . . . Raphael is a power like the world has never seen, the force behind the first ever alliance of North American lords, Cyn’s mate, lover, master.

SORCERER . . . Nick Katsaros, deceptively charming, ancient and commanding, driven by vengeance and a devastating loss, Cyn’s friend and one-time lover.

HUMAN . . . Cynthia “Cyn” Leighton, beautiful, sexy, and smart, the woman both men desire.

It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him. Unexpectedly, it was Nick who provided the key to his freedom. In exchange, he secured a promise that they would help him find and recover the same magical artifact that had been used to imprison Raphael. But when he calls on them to keep that promise, it will be Cyn who pays the price.

Torn between the two powerful men, struggling to keep them from killing each other, she undertakes a desperate search that will find her fighting for her life against a madman who wants her for himself.

4.5 Stars! I love Cyn and Raphael and always enjoy a story that centers around them. This one actually only kind of centered around them. It was very obviously a build up for the spin-off series featuring Nick. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed and I'm looking forward to Nick's book but this didn't further any of the plots in Vampires in America and other than the fact that Raphael had a few jealous/Alpha male moments and a few sex scenes he wasn't integral to this book at all. I'm also getting a little annoyed at Cyn "sneaking" off and putting herself in danger. Yes she is a VERY strong, capable woman but she is still human and dealing with magic objects/sorcerers/vampires you would think she wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss danger and head out on her own during the day. Actually, Nick was the star of this book and I really enjoyed learning more about his background and getting to know his character. He's charming and cocky and witty with just a hint of softness and I can't wait to read more about him. Overall, a very enjoyable book just not what I thought it was going to be and I hope the next Cyn and Raphael novel is more about them. If you're a fan of the series I recommend if you haven't read Vampires in America pick up the first book and start there - this is an amazing series and I have no doubt the spin off will be as well!

This novella gives a lot of new information about the sorcerers history and Nick. I thought Nick was mysterious cool before but now he's badas$ cool. I can't wait to see if a new series spins off on Nick's adventures in finding his friends and warriors. I had hoped to find out about Colin but we'll have to wait. A must read for sure.
This short story was exactly the right amount of introduction that we needed to be tempted by the world of Nick Katsaros. If you’re thinking of or have already read the spinoff series, this is a nice glimpse of the backstory and inner workings of the stoic sorcerer. If you’ve read the original series, then you (like me) must feel *compelled* (HAHAHAHA) to read all short stories to complete the set. Either way, this story was a good, solid installment to whichever series you have interest in.

We get to spend time with Cyn and Raphael, which is always a delight. This couple has been through some amazing things and managed to only become stronger. There is, of course, the problem of Cyn’s ego getting her in trouble when she inevitably doesn’t follow one of Raphael’s orders. This story is no different, except that we get to spend some time with Nick, too! Nick gets re-introduced here as the sorcerer we now know he is. The guy who was once a footnote in Cyn’s past is now a formitable ally/enemy to the vampires. We get to take a look at the history of vampires and sorcerers and (of course) it isn’t good.

In an effort to find the missing manacles, these two supernatural masters need to find a way to ignore the tension and work together. Spoiler alert they don’t work together well. In the end, we get more of Cyn than anyone else (and who doesn’t love that?). We get some good resolution here and even a touch of romantic damsel-saving (if you’re into that). This was an excellent lead-in to the Nick-related books and I really wish I had read this first.
Spoiler! I love her Vampire in america books but this was a intro into Nick's life not so much about Cyn and R. but is was still great anyway, except for when Cyn personality is starting to represent a dumb dumb with out a brain. Seriously she goes into a house with out anyone!! to get a artifact that can incapacitate her R. also not knowing what else this guy has in his safe, and R. telling her not to do before he is forced to sleep and not even taking Nick with her even though he is the one who made the damn shackles. All because she was tired of the 3 maybe 4 times R. and nick where together and had a short piss contest, she literally put up with all of this and could not wait one freaking day, nope she said whatever and became weak dumb minded not seeing the signs Cyn to me after this book. I hope this is not the end of them cause i cant see Ralpael staying with someone that dumb and more reckless with her own life then she has ever been all for no good reason in my book. great book but i dont like the change for Cyn's personality doesnt fit.
